Bill Johnson is going head-to-head with Matt Lepay, Steve True and Ted Davis for the best play-by-play radio guy in local radio. It's funny that Lepay is winning considering he's not even "local" like the other three. But in any case, only 570 votes have been cast -- let's give Bill our best shot! www.jsonline.com/sports/

Last time I checked, UW broadcasts are on local radio ... which is what the question asked.

That's why I put quotes around it: "local," as in Milwaukee.

Who is your favorite basketball play-by-play broadcaster on local radio?

Matt Lepay is my favorite announcer period! That guy could make a Bocce Ball tournament exciting.

Lepay is a very talented PBP guy and would be a great choice to replace Jim Powell ... not sure how much baseball experience he has though.
Wish he would've gotten the Packers PBP over Larrivee a while back.

Hack,
I read some where that Lepay was offered the Vikings PBP job but turned it down because of his love for the UW and college athletics. He would be fun to listen to for Brewers baseball.

Wish he would've gotten the Packers PBP over Larrivee a while back. While I agree Matt Lepay is indeed a very talented PBP announcer, I personally feel that Wayne Larrivee is the best in the business. I still get goosebumps listening to replays of Al Harris' INT over Seattle or pretty much any other significant moment since he took over. There is a reason he is chosen to do MNF, NCAA FB, NCAA BB, etc... I just hope he stays in Green Bay and doesn't get picked up for any full-time national PBP job. By the way, does he still do Chicago Bulls games on TV?

LePay is about as good as PBP guys get. This isn't really a fair poll because he's so much better than most other guys, both locally and nationally.
I don't know who Ted Davis is but Bill Johnson is as much better than Homer True as Matt Lepay is better than the rest of them. Actually the real problem with a poll like this is that it's going to fall largely by partisan lines. No objective listener could think Homer is as good as Bill, but you'd have to search far and wide for a Marquette fan who would admit it.

I don't listen to him because quite frankly I can barely make it from one commercial break to the next one when the Yuck's are on TV. Highly unlikely that I'll listen to them on the radio. I voted for Bill, but I'm guessing Lepay will win in the end with Homer coming in 2nd.
