Certainly something to work on with MillerCoors, or at least take a look at it.
Man I can't wait to do this. Searching for all the memorabilia is going to be a blast.

Don't you kind of need property, a liquor license, and money to start the business first? I hate to be the negative guy, but this doesn't sound like it stands a chance.

bball30, I'm only going to be working at the place...a 22-year old isn't going to start a bar.
This is also a year, maybe 2 years down the road; the fundraising is just getting off the ground right now.

I honestly hope that you are joking. The criteria for obtaining a liquor license in Milwaukee is far more complicated than simply applying. You better begin discussions with the alderman now if you want a license in the next year.

you missed the bus completely here lou, this is not a next year thing, this is 2-3,5 10 years down the road, first we need a building that is already or can be renovated into a bar, once that happens, then you begin the application process for your state liquor liscense, once that is granted you then apply in the municipality you intend to operate in IF that city in this case requires a city liscense. So no i am not joking, it is not out of the question. Unless someone is planning on buying a building right now for this bar, we will have to wait until that is more realistic before beginning talks with the alderman, this whole thing was just to see who is interested and what people could bring to the table to attempt to make this idea a reality, and once again ideas get shot down by a select group of people.

I don't think it's 5-10 years down the road. It really is about the money. Once the money is there, the train will run as long as it needs to make sure everything is A-OK.
The process is moving along slowly.

I doubt the bank gives you a loan for the building until you get the license. I doubt you get the license until you get alderman approval. I doubt you get anywhere near alderman approval until you control/sway at least a few neighborhood associations. You have no chance of convincing a neighborhood association that a UWM bar will be a good idea. This is not pessimistic. This is absolutely realistic. If you want to get a bar, this is your biggest obstacle. This is larger than money. Also, don't forget that every business outside of Jimmy John's and Oakland Gyros will oppose your idea. I don't want to sound like I'm shooting down ideas. I'm just showing you where the roadblocks are before you hit them. To show that I'm not a hater, here are a few suggestions: I'm not sure what their membership policy and voting policy is, but if it was me, I'd research what the most important neighborhood associations in the area are and try to flood them with pro-bar members. I assume you'll need to own a house rather than rent which will cut down on the amount of pro-bar citizens that you can pick from. The only other way I can see a UWM bar is if you get someone in office as Alderman who isn't swayed by the neighborhood associations. I can't imagine how this could occur unless person lies to get in and then drops all promises afterward. Once you pass the HUGE hurdle, if you want any chance in your proposal, you're going to have to have require the strongest carding policy in the State. New bars face higher criticism and being anywhere near an undergraduate university means don't screw it up. As an alternative to this bar idea, I have no idea how the Union or Gasthaus operates, but nearly everyone on the board agrees that it sucks. It would seem much easier for someone to change the Gasthaus. I realize that it isn't the ideal shape, but the location is pretty close to prime. Again, I have no idea how the University or Union services operates the bar, but subcontracting out some business to run it or getting new management would be in their best interests. I'd assume that any transfers in management would also need to be approved by the proper Alderman board, but I can't imagine this being an easier approval than approving a new UWM-themed bar. Buy out another East-Side bar. There are candidates on Brady that may be a good ride, but they are still relatively close.

I once went to the Library bar in Minnesota with some friends and in there bumped into my buddies history professor, the minnesota tennis coach, and the brother of a prolific NFL player from minnesota, both brothers are now in the NFL. All of this happened on the same night and most of the people were there cheering on the crappy gopher bball team(I know they are getting better now). We don't have anything close to this on the eastside. One of my professors took us to the Gasthaus once a week for a month during class for drinks. We didn't cheer on any teams though.
