What happened to Jamie Smalligan? Many of the Butler fans were stating that he was the real deal. I dont even remember if he played against us.

I believe Smalligan played about 4-5 minutes. He's a typical stiff. Definitely nothing special. Not too sure what the hype was about.

You have to remember that all recruits, transfers, new players, etc. are all going to be "all that" during the preseason! It is just that some deserve the accolades (maybe Ed falls into this category), while others don't pan out (maybe Smalligan falls into this category). The preseason is all about past laurels - the present is what really matters.

We've been pretty lucky this season with our main recruits. McCants and Tucker are both playing extremely well, and I guess tonight we'll see Boo for the first time in a game situation.
I'm off to get ready for the game. BTW, our student section banner will be on display for the first time this evening against Youngstown. Normally it will be hanging behind the students at US Cellular. Special thanks to UWMfootball and SA for getting this done. We're keeping the tradition of the Klotsche Krazies still downtown, which in any case we can keep some sort of a tradition, all the better.
GO MILWAUKEE!

Smalligan isnt producing instant results, but has gained a great deal of confidence, and has improved with each game.. I think he had 15 tonight.. and is finally starting to have a little inside presence.. much more defensively, than offensively. Nobody really expects freshman to come in and take over immediately.. that is not the way its done at Butler.. (not that we wouldnt welcome it once in a while) He will be a different player at the end of the season, and will definitely be as good as advertised in the comming seasons..
patience.. eveyone needs to learn the system, and get some experience under the belt..
This years freshman class will be unbelievable in the next few seasons.. add to that the guys that are comming in next year.. all I can say, is enjoy us while you can..

I understand that Smalligan is a freshman, and the college game is entirely different from the high school game and takes a while to get used to. It is just that some (maybe not yourself HinklePower) Butler fans were touting Smalligan as being something really special. Although he may turn into that he isn't their yet - not that I think he should be. I am all for giving young guys time to "adjust" to the college game. For instance, both of our new guys that are contributing have been around the block a few times and aren't freshman. I appreciate the fact that you have a young team and think that you will be tough in the future, but keep in mind that while you are grooming young players, all the other teams are doing the same thing, not to mention restocking with "outside" talent. All this makes for a better HL. Good win last night by the way! ;D
