there are a couple of threads going on now about grassroots marketing efforts to promote UWM basketball, and I think that's great.
I'd like to suggest taking the conversations back a step though. It seems that they have rapidly evolved into tactical discussions, ie what can be done, and that there haven't been many posts on the strategic side of these efforts, such as what the objectives are and who the target audiences are, etc.
The main goal in my opinion is to create consistent strong attendance. A secondary goal is to get people who are coming to the games excited to cheer on the team, maintaining the strong home court advantage that the team has enjoyed the past several years.
It seems to me that there are several key audiences whose attention must be caught to achieve these objectives - students who attend games regularly, students who don't, season ticket holders, alumni who aren't season ticket holders, other non-season ticket holders who are neither students nor alumni. opinion leaders in the media and throughout the community should also be considered IMHO.
are there other goals/objectives that must be included in the strategic thinking that should take place before we start considering tactics? are there other target audiences?
