Now, I know the bookstore is doing their own contest, but I have an idea that isn't in their rules. I thought about this last year when I was PantherPride Chairman. I can't enter this because the shirt won't be all gold.
Marquette has shirts that are blue and gold, they are horizontal stripes and nothing else on them. Madison has tye dye, and the grateful red or something like that.
HERE IS MY IDEA. We should expand off of this and come up with a Black and Gold Checkered shirt. Just imagine a sea of black and gold checkers jumping up and down and moving. Talk about screwing with the eyes of a free throw shooter!! I haven't drawn up a design yet, just a thought.
Let me know what everyone thinks. Don't soccer officials wear checkered shirts?

I agree with Rick. Whatever the design is, it has to separate us from other schools. Many schools do a basic school logo and yellow shirt. That is pretty generic, let's not repeat it!
The checker shirt would certainly be unique. After a few television games basketball fans will immediately associate this style of shirt with our school and Krazie student section. It could be an identity for UWM...
I like the idea.

hOW COULD THIS BE OVERLOOKED? THIS MUST BE DONE! BLACK SPOTTED YELLOW SWEATERVESTS WOULD ALSO BE KOSHER IN MY BOOK BUT THE CHECKERS ARE MORE SPORTY. THESE MUST BE CREATED AND BOUGHT BY ALL.

I love the checkered shirt idea - it would certainly be unique and highly visible, just what we need to make our fan base immediately recognizable.
What style are we talking about? I think a bowling shirt style with a finished bottom would be great. It would be classic Milwaukee and would look good with casual or dress pants so it would be a sharp look for students and older fans as well so everbody could get on board.
A soccer jersy style pull-over without a collar would also be cool, but alums wouldn't be able to wear them to work on game day, so it wouldn't be as universal.

what about black and gold vertical stripes, playing on the "cellblocks" jail bars. just another idea. I really do like this idea. if nothing else, our band should be wearing something of this sort. or do they already? seems to me they do, but then again I cant remember them not wearing their plain black band logo shirts last year. regardless, when at the NCAA tourney games, I always felt our school wasn't up to par on the classiness cause every other school at the sites had 2 color striped shirts representing their school colors, and ours just had the black t-shirt.
but agreed nonetheless, someone should be these style shirts, and our student section shirt should be more original than a logo saying "UWM krazies". at least all this talk and action is a step in the right direction to getting everyone wearing gold or blackandgold in the cell.

n8 you are absolutely right, we (the band) only had black tees that said "uwm bands" on them. i'm all for changing that. the vertical bars are a good idea and i love the checker board shirt idea. if the checks actually happen i think the band should play off that theme but twist it a bit.... thats right i'm talking argyle sweater vests, it'd be pimp.
if everyone submits a checker design it would make the voting process much easier.

Alright, people seem interested in the checks idea.
Can it be done on a tshirt?
Will the student body like the idea? We see the strategy behind it, now somehow that needs to be relayed to those who can vote for the tshirts.

Like i said, i can draw something up if need be. I guess the one bad thing about this being off season is there aren't nearly the number of people on the board to get feedback as we would during the season. I will talk to a few other people about the idea, and if needs be the Student Black & Gold or the Dboard will get the shirts.
The plus side is that we have a few months to still work on it.

The plus side is that we have a few months to still work on it. This is a key point. We have a lot of time to get this right. We don't have to feel rushed to get a design out the door immediately. If anyone does come up with designs, I think it would be a good idea to post them on this thread to see what people think. On a side note, I've been on the board all summer, and it really has been picking up a lot of activity lately. I'm getting really excited about this season!

I love this idea also!! I don't think that it matters that the d-board isn't quite as busy as during the season matters too much, cuz I can't see too many people not liking this idea!

Designs? What designs are needed. It's a striped or checkerboard shirt. There's not much to design here. There are probably companies that already make a striped or checkered shirt style, you just choose the colors.
