It's not down to four yet. There is a pretty decent pool of "qualified" applicants.
I expect a decision by end of next week.

Based on the past success of Pearl and Bo Ryan, I would think Dunlap should be a prime candidate. The guy knows how to win, just like Pearl and Ryan. Who cares if its "only" DII. I remember when Ohio State hired Jim Tressell from Youngstown State. He won 4 national titles there, but since it was only Divison 1AA, it was discounted by a lot of fans. He came in, won a National Championship, beat Michigan 3 times in 4 years, is 3-1 in the post season, and has Ohio State in a position this year to win another national title. The point is, winning is winning, regardless of what division your in. Dunlap knows how to win, period. I think he would be an excellent choice.

He has won on the DII level, but can he recruit DI talent? UWM may have a "loaded" team next year, but the year following, they need to bring in A LOT! This guy has four guys from outside the country........if he has "ties" outside the US great, but he needs to be able to recruit around here (read = midwest). I just don't know if he could do this right away........whereas someone like Hunter or Dougherty could.

pnthr30, that's the same knock on every DII or DIII coach. Did anyone question Bo Ryan (DIII) or Bruce Pearl's (DII) ability to recruit at the DI level? Did they have a problem recruiting at this level? I don't think so, and I don't think Dunlap would either.

Agree with pnthr30. We need a guy who can recruit city kids.
FWIW, this is why I wasn't excited about Bennett. I don't know about Dunlap, but I sure hope that Bud and the rest of the decision makers look long and hard at every candidate's recruiting skills, not just coaching record.

I know what you are saying, but both Bo and Pearl had much more diverse teams.........not to mention they both had been in the midwest for quite a while and had established relationships as well as the ties necessary to recruit in large cities if necessary. Dunlop has no ties to the midwest, nor do his assistants. I am not dismissing him as a candidate, rather raising some questions (likely ones that are raised by the Bud and the committee) that need to be addressed.

look at ric cobb, he was from our own back yard and basically recruited nobody from around here.....

There is a reason Ric is no longer here...........actually, there are MANY, MANY reasons - recruiting being the tip of the iceberg. However, trust me, the players Ric brought in had talent and could play..........keeping them on the straight and narrow and asking them to play within a system......that is a whole different issue. In a nutshell, he is a bad example.........not to mention, he had no head coaching (college) experience.

Question: Does this then eliminate Rob Jeter from consideration? After the "Cobb Experiment," Bud now appears to prefer someone with experience calling timeouts.

I personally think Rob Jeter should be at or near the end of our list.
Does he strike you as a leader?
