BITE ME shirts = no class

Even more classless is the Green Bay tabloid paper keeps bringing the issue up, which has yet to ever be proven accurate. Next week I think they might write about aliens spotted over Lambeau field or the elephant man.
I agree, definitely classless. I was surprised to see so many adults wearing the shirts as well.

You are kidding - right. First of all, and I've tried to generate some conversation on this before, but for some reason can never get a response from anyone on this site. By the way - one of the best forums out there. You should be proud. I sit in that first row and Tony did say bit me repeatedly. No big deal though. It was the heat of the moment and Kowalcyk is no choir boy either. What I am most surprised about is the fact that you are slamming the bite me shirts. Of all people I would have thought that it would have gotten a laugh and kuddos for creativity. You can go back on this site and read posts on how cerain fans are digging up information on criminal and personal records so they can generate what they would consider tasteful chants. You can't have it both ways.
The first post that should have been on this site this morning was about how awesome the crowd was. UWM fans were numerous and loud. This is exactly the type of atmosphere this conference needs. It's actually what the Panthers deserve and don't get. UWM is a talented and extremely fun team to watch. The people on this site go and get involved and that is great but it is nowhere near where it should be. The high flying dunks, the great defense and fun coach deserve the kind of crowd that was there last night and not just 3000 announced fans that currently go to your home games.

Well the conference just got a lot tighter...and now the following games mean even more! I may be biting nails a lot more in the coming month.
As far as the shirts go...the only way I would say it's classless is if the school itself made the shirts! That would just be very poor taste on their part. Not much different than the "Buck Futler" ones though. It's a little surprising that adults were partaking in it too. Props that UWGB can still dig up some school spirit and show some passionate people are involved. Had it been only a paper sign saying it, it would be a little lighter, but being an actual shirt shows where the focus on their minds were! It simply takes the bigger person to put it aside (much the way we do for the Pearl/Collins issue). I hate when it's brought up at the UIC board.
In the end, GB proved they have a right for contending that 1st place spot, and the joke is on their fans...because those shirts really can't be worn again. Can't wear it to a game other than UWM being team specific and can't wear it respectably in public. Great investment guys!

Krazie - I would agree. I was a little surprised that adults had them on as well. I had not heard prior to this game that some of the students were going to wear them. I agree about letting things go. There was a time when Bruce would come to the Resch and people would give him a hard time about the Collins fued. That doesn't happen anymore. We do still give Collins a hard time, but that is because we believe he sometimes recruits less than admirable players.
The previous posts about the class issue is the same thing that was brought up last year when it originally happened. It was classless when Tony said it and it was probably classless when the students wore the shirts last night. To your point that was probably the largest student section for any league game this year and from one of the smallest schools in the conference.

My thoughts/ramblings about last night:
1. Great crowd. Serious props to UWGB and their fans. I hate to say it, but I was jealous of how loud it got in there. I haven't heard the Cell that loud since last year's HL championship.
2. The Resch Center is a very nice facility. Love the leg room!
3. UWGB simply out-executed us down the stretch. Not sure if we were tired, or what, but simply put, we were outplayed when it counted.
4. Defense looked poor stopping the ball all night long. GB seemed VERY ready for the press, and I can only recall one time where they turned it over on the press. I'm not sure if that was a product of good play by them, or poor defense on our part. Probably a lbit of both.
5. Speaking of defense, was it just me or did our guys look tired out there? So many times it seemed we got caught leaning, and hand-checking, and not moving our feet. Very frustrating.
6. The officiating had nothing to do with this loss, so before anyone complains, I just want to get my opinion in.
7. Bottom line: UWGB played a VERY good game. We played a very average game. Had we played to our potential, we probably win. We can't expect to beat the better teams in the conference with performances like this. Wright State game is now HUGE!!

I have to say that we did not get out of the gates right away by not winning the opening tipoff. That let GB set the tone and they kept it up well throughout the entire game. The fact that GB was shooting 47.?? percent from the field and we were still within reach to win the game was due to a great effort in the second half by us. I believe we had our chance to put them away when we took a 72-71 lead. We got our clutch stop and then had to make any kind of basket to start putting them away and taking their home court advantage away from them. We didnt get the basket and they went and hit a 2 then a 3 and that was it. We had our chances but couldnt excecute. Not a terrible game but something to build off of coming down a crucial stretch to take the conference

What I am most surprised about is the fact that you are slamming the bite me shirts. Of all people I would have thought that it would have gotten a laugh and kuddos for creativity.
Those shirts were not creative and had no class. First of all those shirts reminded my of the shirts from the 80's. You know the ones that said relax. Something creative would be, "Bruce is my Homeboy". Additionally, you guys wore that over your school colors. Which is why i think its classless. Support your team. Not bash visitors through mundane tee shirts.
I do understand that it was your humours attempt at cracking a joke between a "feud". I really dont think you guys are ready for stand up comedy though. I will give you a point of credit there for trying to be funny, but if the joke only goes to the assistant coach do you really think your message was very effective. Were you trying to get into the assitant coaches head so he would give bad performance when he was explaing the screen patterns? Most of your students have no clue about the history between UWM and GB.
Additionally, the student section had no idea what was going on most likly. Everytime they started to banter at us we would yell 30 points or put up the 30 with our hands. No body had a clue what we were doing. Same thing goes for the older men in the crowd who were yelling at UWM for losing. We tried to tell them we were still techinically in first place and that the last time we met we stomped GB by 30 points. They didnt have a clue. They didnt even graduate from GB. which is fine with me, but it just goes to show you GB has no class really.
Didnt you guys learn any new phrases in an English class. Those shirts do go to represent the thought process people put into things at GB. and how somone at your games go, "Cool a bite me shirt. This has got to the be the coolest thing ever. Lets put it on in front of 8000 people."
What was with the 40 year old men in your student section. And the 12 year old kid? Theres a reason why you have a kids table and an adult table.
Which leads me to second part of why Gb really has no class. After you guys won last night, it was like you wont the super bowl. GB tied the series and as we all remeber we beat GB by 30 at Milwaukee. You guys won by 4, so we still have 26 points on you in my mind.
I agree with UWMkrazie. You did waste time and money. You guys should of invested in a tee shirt you can wear everygame. Something with your school colors and a school motto. But you guys had to be soo "funny."
go back on this site and read posts on how cerain fans are digging up information on criminal and personal records so they can generate what they would consider tasteful chants
I do not care if you find those chants tastefull or not at least they were subtle and forewarned others of the impact about cheering about the subject. Those chants were more or less social justice for a rapist who got away with what he did. Additionally, it doesnt change the fact that "Bite Me" is lame.

Anyone will wear a free t-shirt. I bet half the people there didn't even know the reason behind the shirt. Many probably had a thought process that went a little something like this: "Oh, bite me, why does it say that? Oh like let the other team bite us?Maybe a kid won a t-shirt design contest or something, it's not the most creative thing ever made. Well.....everyone else has it on....I guess I should wear it too." I don't mind, GB fans can wear whatever tshirt they want, it's not like a tshirt wins or loses the ballgame. It was a poor attempt at trying to unify their fans the way UWM has. They just don't have an awesome, accessible coach, or any other interesting part of their team to make a REAL statement on a shirt. Keep trying. [glow=yellow,2,300]GO PANTHERS!![/glow]

Wow - that is a whole bunch of sour grapes and there really isn't any need for it. Anybody that knows anything about basketball realizes that UWM is still the more athletic and probably the better team.
If I were a UWM fan(and I am when there not playing UWGB) I would be more irritated that you can't draw more interest from a huge student body and alumni. Realizing that there are a lot more things to do in Milwaukee isn't an excuse that will fly either. The Bucks suck and Marquette is only mediocre.
All in all it was a great game last night with a great atmosphere and the UWM fans should be proud with how they showed their spirit.

True, we are. But what and to whom are you adressing?

First of all, anyone who defends or wears a bite me tee shirt would not fit into our fan base. Second, we spend most of our time this board being proactive in getting students to come to games. We do not need your advice. Nor does your statement really matter. You came to this board, and you should expect to take a little crap for anything and everything. We did lose, we dont like losing. and i will save face however i want.
Finally, i guess you are just going to ignore everything i wrote for you. uhhhhhhhhh forget it. Whats the use.

mlphxysaocdiv- Listen why come on UWM's board and try to convince them that your idea was cool. Their not going to agree with you when you just beat them after their HUGE win over purdue. Let’s face it its ok if they go to someone’s place tear up paper and leave all over the place that’s funny . It’s ok when they have 60 yr old men with three teeth giving 12 year olds the finger. It’s ok when they chant rapist in front of thug kids. It’s not ok when the thug kids come after them. It’s not ok you wore a shirt for sh*ts and giggles, its only ok if they win and have fun. But remember anytime you have the chance to rub it in on this program do it cause they are at the top of the conference and it’s always fun to beat the top team.

Boooooo! Milph quit hating on your fellow fans. If you're going to cheer for both UWM & GB you need to be mature about it. You're just asking to be attacked on the board. If all we did on this board was rave about how much we love and support our team we'd sound like a bunch of little girls talking about our crushes. It's common knowledge that we are the hugest fans so I'd rather poke fun at other teams and fans and get them mad. Personally I think we have a great fan base, we have tons of interest and coverage, sure we can always use more fans but we can get LOUD and we need to stay loud. Everyone is welcome to cheer for UWM.

UWM 13-3 UGB 11-5 UIC 11-5 UDM 10-6 WSU 10-6 LU 6-10 CSU 6-10 BU 3-13 who would have guessed this YSU 2-14

Spike - its so hard to hear people fom 3 rd place
Those tee shirts were lame. It was straight out of the 80's. and you failed to adress the fact that its better to wear your school colors than a bite me tee shirt. you failed to say anything about how it was a waste of time and effort making those shirts. Those shirts can only be worn once. You failed to adress they are not effective.
I really dont feel bad that we chanted rapist in front of kids. Its better they know the truth than let him be a role model. Weve been over this before. Just draw a line in the proverbial sand. Would you rather support a rapist or not support a rapist. Even if im the only one on my side thats still better.
Throwing confetti after the first shot is made, is not ment to be funny. and before you run your mouth you should prolly know GB did it at their home court. but i dont care about paper.
As for 60 year old men. As my grandpa always said," i didnt live 84 years for nothing. Im going to do what i want to do ."
Im not here to compete with any of you about what is appropirate and what is not. This is what happens when a die hard UWM, UIC, and GB fan get together. If you cant handle it, leave. Go have a zima.
now that you have stoped pouting.
Im unsure about the game at Wright state this Wed, and UIC still is still a contender if they get their act together and practice.
