Santa Clara, CA --- Idaho State got another career-night from Jeff Gardner, but Wisconsin-Milwaukee hit 14 three-pointers, including 10 of their first 12 as the Bengals dropped their seventh straight contest, losing 85-70 in the consolation game of the Cable Car Classic.
Tied at the early stages at 8-8, the Panthers went on a 13-2 run to take a 21-10 lead. ISU tried to close the gap, but UWM pushed the lead to 45-30 with 2:40 to go. The Bengals responded with a Jeff Gardner three, a Scott Henry layup and a pair of free throws to make the game manageable at 45-37 at the break.
Nate Rede, who scored a career-high 13, opened the half with a basket to put ISU within six, but they would get no closer. A three by John Tucker pushed it to nine. ISU again battled back, with another Gardner three, part of his career-high 24 points making it 58-51 with 12 minutes to go, but again Milwaukee went on a run, this a 17-4 run over the next six minutes to effectively put the game away.
