MU 96 UWM 55
If we couldn't even score 70 on Loyola or UIC, no way do we score 60 on MU.

I had an e-mail volley with Kevin O'Connor earlier this year, right around the time I was making the MU-UWM series video for PantherU.
In fact, our records do show three wins, but only two of those wins involve the "Marquette Dentists" as noted. 1901-02 shows a victory without a date against straight up Marquette.
In any case, it's been 108 years since our last victory over Marquette. I'm more interested in the here and now.

It's been 108 years since Milwaukee Normal School's last victory over Marquette Dental School. Our Division 1 series stands at 0-9, 0-2 since we became a mid-major.

The spread in the paper this morning was 14.5 in favor of Marquette....I hope we can actually be within 15 points by the end of the game. I fear and expect another beating.

Well, let's just hope we have a respectable showing. I have no delusions that we'll actually win this game, but it's certainly not impossible. If nothing else, I just want to see a tremendous effort on Milwaukee's part. Play in control, but dive for balls, crash the boards, and plow through those screens. Do that, and hope that our shooting woes turn around, and see what happens. Go Panthers!

I think it is reasonable to say that this team, and this program, sits upon a precipice - and this game may well determine what direction this season goes in. I see 2 potential scenarios: #1 - We come out and play a good game. We may not win, but we play hard and show that we can compete with Marquette. This would garner the team respect from the public, but perhaps even more important, I think it would build belief within the program. If we could somehow play well enough to win (or even a close loss, IMO), I feel it would be a springboard to further and greater success. Unfortunately, there is another possibility as well... #2 - We come out, play like garbage, shoot 30% and lose this game big. I fear that if we get creamed by MU like the last few years that it will have a disastrous impact on our team and fans. A huge loss here may send this season into a tailspin. I'm hoping like crazy for scenario #1. I'm realistic enough to expect #2.... [modified because my grammar sucks ]

I want our team to make a good showing as much as everybody, but I don't expect it tonight for a number of reasons, not least that I don't think there is some way to just throw the switch between the way we played last week and how we'd like to play tonight. It will take some time yet this year to retool from how we wanted to play to how we'll have to play.
That said, a bad loss tonight, if it happens, is just a bad loss tonight. I don't think it will have any necessary effect on how we play in conference in January.
Anyway, I'll be there cheering for Milwaukee as always.

I'm excited for the game tonight. Even though we are big time underdogs and haven't played well lately, there is something about playing Marquette that gets me amped. I've made a bet with my brother (MU alum) on the game and he is spotting me 18.5, so I'm hoping to get lucky and get a good showing from the Panthers.
I think we can keep it within 15 if:
-We can slow down the pace of the game, Marquette is extremely good in transition
-Stay out of foul trouble, I'm talking to you Tony
-Tight perimeter defense
-Get after rebounds, Marquette will KILL us if we allow them second chance opportunities. 'Zar and Butler might not be huge but they know their way around the paint.
We need to have an outstanding game defensively and we need at least 3 of our bench players to make an impact on the game, specifically Hill, 'Kamp, and Boga. Wouldn't hurt if Souter and Jerard also had good games.
I'll be THRILLED with a win, and happy with a loss as long as our players show up and put forth 40 minutes of good basketball.
Any word yet on whether or not there will be a live chat? I'm in the Valley and was unable to make the trip due to inclement weather.
WAR PANTHERS!!!!!!!!
